Leader of the Opposition in Grenada Dr Keith Mitchell walked out of today’s Parliament sitting after the Speaker of the House suspended his presentation for refusing to withdraw a statement in relation to Carriacou and Petite Martinique MP, Tevin Andrews.
Mitchell went as far as to tell the Speaker to ‘throw him out’, as he will not withdraw his statement.
The Opposition leader said he believed Andrews should apologise to the teachers of Carriacou and Petite Martinique for recent comments made in a Facebook video, where he allegedly made insensitive remarks about them Post-Hurricane Beryl.
The Opposition leader pointed out people are under traumatic problems and leaders should not speak to them like that.
However, the Carriacou and Petite Martinique MP rose on a Point of Order during Mitchell’s presentation and said he did not make any such statement about teachers and asked him to withdraw it.
Mitchell refused, despite being asked several times by the Speaker of the House to provide evidence it was said or withdraw.
After a brief recess, the Speaker said Mitchell’s presentation would be suspended and moved onto the next person to present in the sitting.
The Opposition leader responded by walking out of the Parliament and was followed by the rest of the opposition bench.
