St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has been honored with Japan’s Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, one of the country’s highest national decorations awarded to foreign nationals for their contributions to Japan’s international relations.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and accepted the decoration with humility, aiming to further strengthen the already excellent ties between Japan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Japan’s ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Matsubara Yukata, highlighted the rarity of conferring such a decoration upon a sitting head of government, praising Gonsalves for his leadership and statesmanship in fostering a growing partnership between the two nations. The actual ceremony for the conferment of the national decoration is expected to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year.
Established in 1875, the Order of the Rising Sun features rays of sunlight radiating from the rising sun, with attachments shaped into paulownia flowers and leaves.
